WTF do I need to do to keep the dust from swarming into the cab? I don't know what's going on, but it is out of control. I've been hunting off mine the past couple of weekends and it is covering me, the passenger and the riders in the bed, not the mention our guns. I can't even see hardly when driving its so bad......

Is it my tires? Windshield? Is this normal?

I have a set of 28" Swamplites, and a half windshield, and also a roof.

Any ideas?

Removing the windshield will help a lot! The windshield creates a vacuum in the cab

I had this same problem and the fix is easy. Raise your windshield approximately three inches. There needs to be a gap between it and the top of the dash. This allows enough air below the windshield to stop the dust from swirling in from the sides and atthe same time keeps the wind out of your face/ eyes! Try it and I promise you wont be disappointed. Hope this helps!

Definitely need something for the back, or remove the windshield. When running a windshield it just creates a vacuum and circles right in the back window on you. If you run a windshield you have to run a back glass if you are going to be in any dust at all.

Go with the Rydontops.com dust shield it keep dust out and noise levels lower and it is designed to reduce the dust to the intake air filter extending engine life. I am very satisfied with mine. My brother in law has one too and loves it.:icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll try moving the windshield up a little as I hate to remove it completely. It's been really nice using it as a gun rest while hunting hogs!!!

I'm also going to look into a dust shield for the rear as well.

Great help guys!!! Thanks a million!!!

Just for grins here's a little work we've gotten done off the teryx in the past couple of weeks!!! More to come as we exterminate!!!

Nice! Send me some bacon!

Generally, those wild hogs don't provide much bacon. Backstrap, hams and sausage, but not much bacon.

Removing the windshield will help. I roll two towels and put one behind each front seat to block the gap. I get virtually no dust now.

Pipe Insulation

You can also use the black foam pipe insulation that you slip over copper pipe. You can trim it to fit your opening and you can get different sizes to make the fit tighter if you need to. Very cheap!

I am going to try a couple of the easy fixes first and see what happens. I saw another topic where a guy installed a small piece of bed liner to the front of the bed, filling the gap between the bed and seats. Any of you guys tried that yet?

Your post is actually the one I saw!!! That's more like something I want to do. I'll have to try this out and see what happens. Did you have to raise your windshield or can you just leave it down low?

Thanks again everyone for all the feedback!!! I've got some good ideas to try out now!!!

We have some 1/4" thick rubber here at work, may have to try that fix for behind the seats!

One of the reasons I have not put a half windshield on is because of the dust and heat issues it creates, though I do agree it would make a good rifle rest for hogs and coyotes. I have thought about a padded bar for that as well. I haven't hunted out of mine yet but have been threatening to. I think it would make a good nightime varmint rig. I have a forward facing rear seat in quick detach mounts for mine.

03rd_SVT, I am just down the road from you in Wellington. Where do you guys go ride? We usually go over in the edge of OK to Altus, or ride around here on family land.

We go to the Canadian river some, lake McClellan, and our land up by Booker. We are hunting up on top of the canyon out SW of Amarillo on a friends land.

We have just been hunting hogs till we run them all off then start chasing rabbits. It's a blast!!!

How is McClellan? Have heard there is a place to ride there but haven't got over there and checked it out. Been thinking about it though, only about 60 miles from us. How much area is there to ride?

Didn't know there were any pigs in that area, wouldn't have thought there would be. I was around there quite a bit back in college. Learn something new every day I guess. Our land is out around Quail, if you know where that is. Between Wellington and Hedley, and back north from there.

It's decent riding, but it gets pretty crowded out there. If you stay on the south side of the lake it's less crowded, but the trails aren't as fun. The west side has all the fun trails, but it gets pretty crazy over there. I personally like going to the Canadian River, getting down in the river bed and heading west towards the railroad bridge. I load a cooler full of beer, sandwiches, crank the tunes up and just go as far as I can.

I actually grew up in Claude, so I know when you're talking about. What year did you graduate? I graduated in 98.

I am currently shooting PMC X-Tac green tips, but they are such a hot round that they just zip right thru these hogs. I'll probably just finish out all the rounds I have left then go to a slower, softer tip.

We've been throwing some tracer rounds in about every 4th shot just for the hell of it. My buddy drilled a pig with one the other night and I guess it hit a bone and rocketed up in the air......pretty cool seeing that.

That's funny. I graduated WT in spring of '98 with my degree in Wildlife Science. HS was Wellington in '87. It didn't take me 12 years to get my degree though, I did a run through the Navy on fast attack submarines in between.

I would have figured the Canadian was crazier than McClellan. I have heard lots of stories about the Canadian. My boss used to ride up there back in the day, he quit because it was so bad.

Farmers here have been hiring a helicopter to fly for hogs the last 5 years or so, that has knocked the population back. You can never git rid of them, but numbers are down from what they were. Still plenty of them though, if you have the right places to hunt. I prefer more bullet weight than the 5.56, but that is just me. I know it will work, I just like to hit them hard.

We go out and ride on the Red between here and Childress some, it's not crowded at all. Main problem with that is you really have to watch quicksand, and the water is salty (Salt Fork of the Red). You have to wash things real good when you get back, that water can really do a number on your rig if you don't pay attention. We don't go there unless I am going to have time to clean my rig when I get back.

The Canadian River does get pretty crazy sometimes, but it's not too bad if you stay away from the bridge. The east side is normally pretty crowded, but the west side is normally alright. Our normal ride out there starts on all the trails, then once it starts getting crowded we head west in the river bed and just go cruise thru the water.

I've been telling my buddies that we all need to just take our deer rifles out there, set up a few hundred yards from our feeder and just post up on top of my Teryx. We could all just pick a hog out and start dropping them, but they all think their ninjas or something and like sneaking up on them. We normally just walk up on them, then when we get about 50 yards from them we just light them up. I will admit its pretty fun doing it this way, but we'd be more effective staying further out. Either way it's a blast!!!

I use the half windshield then I had the canvas lady that makes the isinglass windshield for my boat make a windshield that goes from the top to bellow the half windshield there is a gap between the two windshields the air blows up the half windshield then down between the two so the air blows on your legs then threw the cab keeping the dust out this has been working great I was Gona have her make some side curtains out of the heavy screen but after using the windshield setup in some very very very dusty conditions i don't need to i don't even need to wear goggles sorry I can't post some pic right now I leave the windshield at my camp

I have the $20 plastic dust shield that works fine. Helps a lot with the dust.one day in a deep creek crossing I'm convinced it kept water from my air box for a couple seconds. Those two seconds were all I needed . I'm sorry but that ride on tops dust shield thing just looks silly as hell to me. That's just my opinion and opinions is a lot like buttholes.i have a full windshield.
